How to configure connection conditions

This article shows marketers how to configure connection conditions on the Canvas (new experience). Conditions control how audiences move between connected campaigns and are based on impressions, clicks, and conversions. Marketers can enable multiple conditions, and the platform evaluates them using OR logic, so meeting any one condition triggers audience movement.

Steps to configure conditions

Go to a connected campaign. Click the Connection block.

In the open block, switch on a toggle to activate a condition. Enter a value.

There is no save button. Click the Canvas to close the block and review the settings. To edit the settings, click the block again.

The unopened Connection block displays a message about the draft state (and zero data) until the campaign goes live and starts to engage with the audience.

Steps to review flow data

When the campaign goes live, the unopened Connection block displays audience flow data.

Steps to add a conversion

Note, if the Conversion toggle is disabled, the campaign doesn't have an active conversion tracker. To create one, go to the action bar at top of the Canvas and click the gear icon. On the next page, click the Open Web Trackers menu link and create a tracker.

To enable a conversion condition, switch on the toggle. A new block displays.

  1. Click the Tracker field and select an option.
  2. Go to the Conversion Action field. The default setting is all actions. Optionally, click the Specify field and select one action.
  3. Go to the Number of conversions field and enter a value.

There is no save button. When you're done, go to the top of the block and click the back arrow.

Notes

For this release, marketers can't enable conditions for video views, or completion rates for audio or video creatives. Those conditions are on the illumin roadmap. Of course, you can still build campaigns with those creative types.

Conditions evaluate engagement at the campaign level, not at the tactic level. Here's an example. One campaign has five tactics (e.g. audio, video, display, CTV, and native display). If one unique user receives one impression from each tactic, and the campaign condition is five impressions, the platform tags that user as Advanced, and moves the user to the next connected campaign.

FAQs

How do connection conditions work on the Canvas?

Connection conditions move audiences between connected campaigns when a condition is met. Conditions evaluate impressions, clicks, or conversions at the campaign level. The platform uses OR logic, so meeting any enabled condition advances the user.

Why does the Connection block show zero data or a draft message?

The Connection block shows a draft state with zero data until the campaign goes live. Audience flow metrics appear only after impressions occur. Once live, the block displays reached and advanced users. This behavior does not indicate an error.

Why is my campaign not advancing users to the next campaign?

Users advance only after meeting at least one active condition. Common causes include high condition thresholds, low impression delivery, or a disabled conversion tracker. Conditions also evaluate engagement at the campaign level, not per tactic.

Why is the Conversion toggle disabled in Connection conditions?

The Conversion toggle is disabled when no active conversion tracker exists. Create a tracker from the Canvas action bar using the gear icon and Open Web Trackers. After activation, the conversion condition becomes available. Without a tracker, conversion-based advancement cannot occur.
