Enable deals targeting

Deals targeting defines how a campaign buys inventory. At the journey level, marketers choose between open auction delivery or open auction plus public deals. Marketers can override journey-level settings and configure deal targeting at the tactic level.

Open the Deals targeting page

How marketers open the page depends on whether targeting applies at the journey level or the tactic level. Learn both workflows here

Configuring journey-levels settings

Choose this option to apply deal settings to all campaigns and tactics in the journey.

  1. Go the Journey Settings page.
  2. Click the Open Web & DOOH Targeting menu link.
  3. Click the Deals tab.

On the next page, select an option and click the Save button

Configuring tactic-level targeting

At lower levels, tactics can target private marketplace deals. PMP deals offer curated inventory, priority access, or negotiated pricing. This supports campaigns that need higher quality supply or want to appear in premium environments.

  1. Open a campaign on the Canvas (new experience).
  2. Select a tactic.
  3. Click the Targeting tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Deals tab
  5. Click the pencil icon to open a side panel.

Go to the side panel.

  1. Uncheck the box to enable tactic-level settings.
  2. Select one of the three options.
  3. Click the Save button.

🟪  One of the options is the same one described above (i.e. Target all public deals and open auction). The third option is disable deals targeting. If you select the middle option, Target selected deals, you can enable (or disable) one or more specific public deals, plus any private deals you have set up.

If you add tactic-level targeting, the platform moves the tab to the Custom targeting section of the page.

FAQs

What is Deals targeting in illumin?

Deals targeting defines how a campaign accesses open auction, public deals, and private marketplace deals. Marketers choose settings at the journey level or override them at the tactic level. The selected option determines which supply sources the platform can bid on and which deals remain eligible.

When should marketers use journey-level Deals targeting?

Marketers use journey-level Deals targeting when all campaigns and tactics in the journey require the same auction access rules. This setting enforces consistent bidding behavior across the journey. It reduces configuration errors and ensures uniform supply eligibility.

How does tactic-level Deals targeting override journey settings?

Tactic-level Deals targeting overrides journey settings when marketers uncheck the journey control box and select a new option. The tactic then follows its own deal logic. This allows the tactic to target selected public deals, private deals, or disable deals targeting entirely.

Why are private marketplace deals not delivering?

Private marketplace deals do not deliver when the tactic does not enable selected deals or when journey-level settings restrict deal access. Marketers must confirm that the correct option is selected and that the specific private deal appears as enabled within the tactic configuration.
