This article explains how to install the illumin Universal Pixel on a WordPress site to enable order tracking.
You will learn how to:
- Add the pixel sitewide using a WordPress plugin.
- Add a footer script.
This article covers website implementation only. It does not explain how to create or map a Universal Pixel inside illumin.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- Access to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- A copied illumin Universal Pixel.
This example uses the following plugin:
- PixelYourSite (for sitewide pixel installation)
- You can use alternative plugins if preferred.
Add a sitewide pixel on WordPress
Install the illumin Universal Pixel sitewide to track visitor activity and support audience building and campaign optimization.
Step 1: Log in to WordPress
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
Step 2: Open Your Pixel Plugin
In the left sidebar:
- Locate your installed pixel plugin (for example, PixelYourSite).
- Click the plugin name.
Step 3: Open Head & Footer settings
- Navigate to the Head & Footer section.
- Scroll to Footer Scripts.
Step 4: Paste the Universal Pixel
- Paste your Universal Pixel into the Any device type field
- Click the Save Settings button.
WordPress installs the Universal Pixel sitewide.
FAQs
What access is required before installing the illumin Universal Pixel on WordPress?
Marketers need access to the WordPress admin dashboard and a copied illumin Universal Pixel. Without admin access, marketers cannot open the plugin settings or save Footer Scripts. The Universal Pixel must exist in illumin before installation begins.
What happens if marketers do not click the Save Settings button after pasting the Universal Pixel?
WordPress does not apply the Universal Pixel sitewide if marketers do not click the Save Settings button. The pixel remains unsaved in the Footer Scripts field. Order tracking and visitor activity tracking do not activate.
Can marketers install the Universal Pixel without using a plugin?
This workflow requires access to a Footer Scripts or Head & Footer setting within WordPress. If marketers do not use a plugin, they must still insert the Universal Pixel into a footer script area that loads sitewide. The article does not define alternative non plugin methods.
