Overview
An HTML5 creative is an HTML file that includes or references other files, such as JS or CSS stylesheets, images (JPG, GIF, SVG), and video assets (MP4, WEBM). Unlike static image ads, HTML5 creatives can include animation, video, audio, dynamic content, and user interactions within a single ad unit. They are widely used across desktop, mobile, tablet, and Connected TV (CTV) environments because they provide a flexible and responsive advertising experience.
When the ad is served through a DSP or ad server, the browser loads these assets and renders the creative in real time within the ad placement. Because the ad runs like a lightweight web application, advertisers can create more immersive and data-driven experiences while maintaining compatibility with industry ad specifications and file size requirements.

Technical requirements
File size measurement definitions
Compressed ZIP file must be within 75–100 KB, including all code and assets.
The ZIP file must include all referenced code libraries, such as JavaScript libraries, and must contain at least one HTML file. All assets must be self-contained; the creative must render correctly offline after extraction.
All code and assets used by the ad, including images (JPG, GIF, SVG) and video (MP4, WEBM), must be included within the ZIP file. HTML5 creatives must meet all rich media ad specifications, including file load size and ad functionality requirements (refer to programmatic display requirements).
Only one click-through URL is supported; multiple click-throughs require third-party tags.
Complex HTML5 creatives with multiple click-through URLs require third-party tags.
illumin requirements
Ensure the creative width and height are explicitly defined within the <style> section of the <head> tag (for example: body { width: 300px; height: 250px; }).
Dynamic or flexible creative sizes are not supported.
Test all HTML5 creatives across supported browsers and devices before submission.
Include a static fallback image (JPG or PNG) for unsupported browsers.
Submit creatives 5–7 business days prior to launch to allow compatibility testing with illumin systems and exchange partners.
